This is one of the toughest questions we are asked. The answer is...it depends. It depends on the current construction and finishes (such as wall surface materials, seating, windows, etc.) of the space you wish to treat. It depends on the answer to the question: what does success sound like to you? (Do you need absolute quiet? Or, is a moderate reduction in annoying echo and reverberation all you need?) It depends on how you plan to use the space...recording studios, auditoriums, office conference rooms, restaurant dining areas, and home living spaces have different requirements. A good rule of thumb, at least for budgeting purposes, is this: expect to cover 10%-20% of your wall surface area with acoustic panels if you need moderate absorption in a space with a good amount of noise. In some cases, more than 20% coverage may be required. In other cases, the simple addition of a couple panels placed in strategic locations may be all you need.

An acoustic specialist is often the best source for determining your needs. Use our free room acoustic solution form, call or chat with us to have an Audimute acoustic specialist help you determine your own needs. We are here to help.
Not necessarily, results depend on the placement of the Acoustic Panel more than thickness or size. The thickness of the Acoustic Panel depends on the type of sound that needs to be absorbed. For example, our 1.5” thickness panels are meant to absorb mid to high range frequencies, while thicker panels such as 4” thick panels, also known as bass traps, absorb lower range frequencies. When considering what Acoustic Panels to order it is best to contact one of the Acoustic Specialists to ensure the best results.
On the most basic level, you should try to place acoustic panels wherever sound is hitting walls. In most cases, in simply shaped rooms (squares or rectangles) with a single sound source, you can easily identify the point of the first reflection by visualizing what direction the sound is traveling from the sound source. In spaces where the primary sound source is the conversation of groups of people, it is best to place panels at eye level (around three feet up if people are seated in the room; about five to six feet if they are standing). Finally, placing panels in corners can help with sound build-up.
In more oddly shaped rooms, or when the sound source is more complicated, you may find it helpful to consult with an acoustic specialist. Audimute's acoustic consultants are available to consult at any point in your search for an acoustic solution: Contact Us here.

Absorption Sheets and isolé:
Audimute Sheets are not intended to be an STC solution for blocking/isolating sound. Audimute's absorption sheets reduce and absorb reverberation (reflected sound) within a space. Our sheets absorb high, mid and low range frequency sounds. If you are seeking to help reduce sound from entering or exiting a space, then our isolé Sound Barrier Sheets may be the solution for you.
Audimute Absorption Sheets:
- Clean Up Your Sound - Provide for clearer sounding music - eliminate the 'Shouting Contest' as you can hear every member of the band more evenly, without the competing deflecting sound waves. This separation of instruments allows musicians to find their mistakes in timing and pitch, correcting your band harmonies.
- Save Your Hearing - Reduce exposure to harmful/dangerous volume levels
- Make Neighbors/Housemates Happier
- Save the Planet - Audimute is made from recycled materials. It’s a safe & natural product.
For Musicians:
Audimute sheets will eliminate the reverb and reflection in your space so you can practice without having to play as loud because you will not be competing with the deflection of sound in your space. The result of using Audimute sheets in a recording studio is dry, unaffected sound that can be manually engineered for effect later in the mix down process. Utilizing Audimute will give you just the sound – true sound minus any flutter or room effect. The sound can then be engineered to your liking later in the mixing stage.
For Pet Owners:
Audimute's absorption sheets will absorb the mid and high range frequency noises that animals commonly make without having to isolate your pet from the rest of your home. Our sheets are also made from a blend of recycled cotton so they are not harmful to your animal's health. Our sound absorption sheets are a portable solution that can be hung and removed at your convenience so you can minimize your pet's noise without having to sacrifice their happiness or safety.
No, we do not recommend cutting to size. Audimute Sheets are a quilted product, and cutting into the sheet will cause the acoustically absorptive filling to fall out. Instead, sheets can easily be folded to fit your personal size requirements.
While our customers love the effectiveness of our Absorption Sheets, we do frequently receive questions and suggestions in regard to the sheets aesthetics. Many of our customers have framed the sheets. Others have covered the sheets with fabric.
Our most frequently asked question is whether the sheets can be dyed or painted. The product cannot be dyed or painted with ordinary dyes or paint as it will alter the products effectiveness, reducing the product’s absorption ability.
Peacemaker is a flexible rubber product that is used in walls, floors and ceilings to reduce sound transmission from room to room. A thicker barrier product does not necessarily mean more sound will be blocked. It is the density of the product that determines the amount of noise that will be reduced.
For example, our Peacemaker Soundpoofing Underlayment is our thickest barrier product but it is the least dense and therefor does not block sound as effectively as our Peacemaker Sound Barrier. Audimute's Peacemaker Soundproofing Underlayment is effective at isolating and preventing resonating, shaking, vibration and other movement caused by impact noise. For wall applications we typically recommend using Peacemaker Sound Barrier for noise blocking and for floor and ceiling applications, Peacemaker Soundproofing Underlayment will prevent vibration and impact noise.
You can use any hanging hardware that can be securely anchored into your wall. Screws, nails, picture hooks, and other widely available mounting hardware may work, depending on the construction of your walls and your intended use. We recommend using our Quick Hanging Knobs as an easy, practical solution, especially if you need a more attractive, permanent gallery style hanging solution. Using knobs that screw on and off of permanently anchored screw in bolts also provides a more secure and durable solution in situations where the hanging products will be layered and/or hung and taken down repeatedly in the same location. Though two knobs will adequately hold the sheet up, we recommend three knobs (one for each grommet) to prevent sag in the middle of the sheet. If you will be layering 2 sheets, each knob/bolt combination can hold 2 grommets.
